A short biography, in the order he would probably tell it: the city, the music, and then the work.

The city

Mexico City is home. He likes it best at the edges of the day: early, before the traffic, when the breakfast stand on the corner is the only thing open, and late on Sunday, when the big avenues finally go quiet.

He gets around on foot whenever he can. A long walk between two neighborhoods tells you more about the city than any ride across it.

The records

The record collection is his oldest habit. It grows slowly, one or two second-hand LPs at a time, mostly boleros and Mexican rock from before the nineties.

He would rather find a scratched copy for a few pesos than order a new pressing. Part of the fun is not knowing what will turn up.

The work

During the week he edits and checks facts. Most of it is patient comparison work: reading a document line by line next to the official record and flagging every place where the two don't agree.

It suits him. The same patience that goes into sorting a crate of records goes into sorting a draft. He is currently senior editor and fact-checker at onlinecasinos.org.mx.
